It would seem spiders are the very definition of creepy. The originator of phobia throughout history. But many ancient cultures including Native Americans, Celts, and Greeks deified the spider for its skill at weaving silky webs. How times have changed. The great majority of dreamers I’ve talked to over the years suffer from acute arachnophobia yet still het tortured by these creepy crawlers regularly. What’s going on here? What does a spider dream actually mean?
Dream spiders represent darkness, witchcraft, or occult activity. Waking life spiders are known to inhabit dark spaces and spin webs to indirectly capture their prey. These actions are in line with the original definition of occult, hidden from view, or secret supernatural knowledge. Spiders in dreams represent dark influence that isn’t readily or obviously seen. That said, I’ve never seen a spider be a positive or good symbol in any dream.
Unique Aspects of Spider Dreams
To further understand why spiders mean what they do within dreams, one has to look no further than a spider’s natural characteristics. Hiding in dark places and spinning webs.
Spiders live in darkness. They can be found in holes in the ground, or small bushes. They can also be found in the quiet, covered parts of abandoned cars, and dark spaces of any house. Turns out, spiders need quiet dark spaces to catch their prey. In the metaphorical world of dreams this is symbolic language for dark, demonic spirits. They too inhabit dark and desolate places for the purpose of setting traps for the unsuspecting.
Spider’s Webs In Dreams
Spider webs aren’t easily detectable in the dark. Most insects don’t see them at all, that’s why they et so easily caught in their silky patterns. When dark spirits conceal things like offense and bitterness behind easily justifiable circumstances, a person can walk around for the majority of their lives caught in a trap. The person won’t even know they’re caught in a trap the majority of the time because of justification. “They did me wrong!” and “I have the right to feel this way!” are mantras of those caught within a dark spiritual spider web.
This leads us to the symbolic meaning of a spider web in a dream. A well laid, invisible trap.
Webs can be easy to ignore when you’re being chased through a haunted house. The need to get away, the propelling fear, there are many factors that would cause a dreamer to ignore spider webs in a nightmare. They are, however, a clue giving away the presence of the occult.
Webs are also a sign of witchcraft. The entertainment industry has made billions of dollars by putting a positive spin on witchcraft. Truth is, casting a spell is exactly like setting a web. It’s laying an invisible trap for the unsuspecting. Thing is, the individual casting a spell is slowly being caught in a trap themselves. and they didn’t even realize it.
Witches and warlocks form communities called covens. They gain approval within these communities and more importantly they gain approval. Added to this, is the insatiable desire for control, power, and fleshly satisfaction. It doesn’t take more than a few key strokes in your favorite search engine to realize there are support groups for all of those. The phrase web of deception exists for a reason.
Spider’s Cannibalistic Tendencies in Dreams
Another natural characteristic of a spider that influences their metaphorical meaning within dreams is their cannibalistic nature. By an overwhelming margin female spiders are cannibals. In the majority of cases a female spider kills and eats its mate before, during, or after mating.
This gruesome practice fits right into the occult/witchcraft. When an individual makes agreements with spirits to cast a spell, it brings destruction to that individual’s life. The reason for this is the spirits doing the work behind the spells are dark destructive spirits. No matter how they portray themselves. In other words, witchcraft in its very nature is cannibalistic.
The Meaning of A Spider Bite in a Dream
Knowing the general spider dream meaning sheds light on the meaning of other aspects of spider dreams. Take spider bites, for example. The bite of a something that lives in dark spaces and makes invisible traps means it’s affecting you. When spiders bite, whether in your waking life or your dream life, it’s a form of aggressive attack that leaves behind something harmful.
Just think about it. When a dog bites someone it leaves puncture holes filled with saliva. Dog’s mouths aren’t known for having clean mouths, so it’s expected that something harmful will affect the victim. In much the same way, spiders produce very small puncture holes with their fangs and often inject toxin into the wound.
All of us have most likely been bitten by spiders weather we realize it or not. When a spider bites you in a dream, it’s injecting dark, demonic influence into you that will show up in your life. It could affect your thinking, your life walk, how you relate to others. It all depends where the spider bites you.
I was doing business inside a bank when the teller told me an interesting spider dream.
The dreamer found herself in the front yard of her parent’s house digging a hole of some kind. A big spider came out of the hole and bit her father in the leg. He died.
The dreamer was then put in a different dream in which she was in the same front yard. She was alone this time. A huge spider came out of a hole and bit her.
End of Dream
Something’s very interesting about this dream. The dreamer’s dad gets bitten by a spider after it comes out of a hole the dreamer dug. He died. The dreamer also gets bitten by a spider that comes out of a hole. The assumption is the dreamer is going to die, but the dream ends.
We want to know what’s going to happen to the dreamer. When the dreamer told me the dream she desperately wanted to know what was going to happen to her. The answer to that question is the this: the outcome has not yet been determined. This is the usual meaning of a dream that ends abruptly in the middle of action.
The dreamer tells us something very important. The spider got access to her father because she dug a hole in the ground. In other words, the dreamer did something that allowed a spider to get access to her father where he felt at home. She met the spider at its level, gave it access and it had a huge affect on her dad.
Take Note
It’s also important to note that just because the dreamer’s dad died in her dream it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to die in waking life. This assumption is almost never right. To discover the meaning behind death in dreams here’s a link to my blog called What does a Death Dream Mean?
It’s far more likely that the dad’s death means the dreamer opened some kind of portal that allowed the influence of the occult to greatly harm her dad’s life walk but it left her mother untouched.
Another very important thing to take note of in this dream is the fact that the dreamer got bit by the spider too. The dreamer didn’t say whether she got bit in the leg, but the bite will no doubt have a great affect on her life as well.
What To Do When You Have a Spider Dream
When you encounter a spider in a dream find a shoe, something, and beat the living daylights out of it! If you allow a dream spider to live that means that you are giving the dark influences motivating that spider permission to have access to you life. Just like the dreamer in the above dream, that access you allow will affect the people you love in very bad ways..
